Seth Thomas Wall Clocks Have A Long HistoryAre you looking for the perfect timepiece to add value and conversation to your home? Seth Thomas wall clocks have been around for a long time. His company manufactured the famous tower clock at the Grand Central Station in New York City. Seth Thomas, a pioneer in evolving the mass production of clocks, began his career in clock making in 1807. Seth Thomas worked as an apprentice for the well-known clock makers Eli Terry. He purchased Terry's Connecticut factory in 1810 and made tall clocks with wooden movements. In 1812, Thomas moved to Plymouth Hollow, Connecticut and purchase an established factory where he made clocks with wooden gear movement. Initially, most of the Seth Thomas clocks were built with pillar and scroll cases including a scene painted on the bottom area below the clock’s face. Several of these clocks were framed in carved mahogany. In 1845, the wooden gear movement was replaced with brass movements. In 1853, the company was officially named Seth Thomas Clock Company. After Thomas’s death in 1859, his sons introduced new clock styles. The Seth Thomas calendar antique wall clocks for kitchens were some of the most popular. In 1875, Plymouth Hollow was renamed as Thomaston in honour of Seth Thomas. Since that time, many styles were created including long case clocks, mantel, table-top and Seth Thomas wall clocks. A Seth Thomas wall clock adds beauty to any room and makes a great conversation piece. Ever since Seth Thomas began making clocks the company has increasingly perfected the craft, making them into the highest quality clocks available.
